Isopure Overview

Isopure is a diet shake meant for weight loss. It comes in various flavors, from vanilla to peach, and comes in different types of carb levels from “0 carb” to “low carb.” These shakes can be purchased at a number of online retailers, including GNC. The shake mixes come in different containers that contain 1 lbs, 3 lbs, 4.5 lbs, or 7 lbs, depending on how much you want at a time. The prices look to run the gamut from around $20 to around $100, which depends on the amount you buy, so price-wise, it looks to be an alright deal.

Isopure is made by The Isopure Company, LLC (or Nature’s Best). They claim to have been in business for over 30 years, but outside of their own website there’s actually very little information about them. They have no Better Business Bureau page – although there are lots of similarly-named “Isopure” name variants for companies that have to do with water purification – and so it’s difficult (if not impossible) to get an idea of their customer service history.

Isopure Claims

Isopure claims to be a high-quality protein shake that works as a protein supplement and as a way to help your muscles to build while on an exercise regimen. It also claim to support “weight management” by keeping you full in between meals. That’s about all they claim, although it’s presumed that it’s supposed to provide a balanced source of nutrition as a supplement during dieting of some kind.

Isopure Ingredients

Isopure has a large list of ingredients, which include the following:

  • Whey protein isolate
  • L-Glutamine
  • Soy Lecithin
  • Sucralose
  • Xanthan Gum

Whey protein isolate is made from whey, a byproduct of the cheese-making process. It’s considered a high-quality form of supplemental protein, as it contains about 90% protein by weight. L-Glutamine is an amino acid that helps many bodily processes, including metabolism and muscle maintenance.

Soy lecithin is an emulsifier, used to break up oils into smaller parts so that they mix better with water and can be absorbed by the body easier – but it also comes with side effects like abdominal plain and nausea (Drugs.com).

Sucralose is an artificial sweetener that could come with side effects including bloating and diarrhea (NHS). Xanthan gum is an additive used as a thickener, and it could also cause side effects that include flatulence (WebMD).

The Science Behind Isopure

The main idea here is to give your body lots of protein (25g a serving) so that your body will take more time to digest it, leading to a lower likelihood of you feeling hungry in the hours after taking it. The l-glutamine is meant to help muscle development, and the vitamins and minerals are meant to give your body additional nutrition.

As a supplement to promote muscle development, this product isn’t that bad actually. The problem is that it’s not a very good way to lose weight. Protein can keep you fuller, yes, but that’s only one part of the weight loss puzzle, and Isopure doesn’t contain ingredients that can help you with energy, metabolism, or other things important to weight loss.

Word on the Street About Isopure

Isopure has a lot of customer reviews available for reading. Many are positive, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some detractors.

These shakes are high quality” said some, while other customers said they liked the “great taste” and “the best protein shakes I’ve ever used.

Other customers said that “it’s too sweet” and “it’s too grainy,” while other customers said “some of the flavors are too synthetic-tasting.

These are the best diet shakes, all on one list.

Is Isopure Worth Trying?

Isopure seems to be fine as a straight protein shake, since it contains a high-quality version of protein and almost no sugar, with few carbs. However, it does contain some artificial ingredients, including sucralose, and products like xanthan gum that can cause side effects for some people. Customers have remarked that the product is one of the better-tasting protein shakes out there, while some say it’s too sweet.

However, this doesn’t appear to be very good to use as a weight loss shake. It contains protein, yes, but that’s about all, and it doesn’t contain any additional ingredients that can help your body with losing weight and burning fat.

If you want to lose weight, you might want to try something else that’s a little more geared toward weight loss.

Isopure vs Quest

These are both protein shake products meant for use as nutritional supplements. Both are about 100 calories per serving, but while Isopure contains 25g of protein per serving, Quest contains 22g.

Isopure appears to come in more sizes than Quest, and price-wise they’re fairly comparable. Both use whey protein isolate, but Quest adds another product called micellar casein, a milk product. Both of these products can be purchased at popular reputable places, including Amazon.

Isopure vs Isoflex

Despite the similar name, these products are made by different companies. Both use whey protein isolate in their products, and both come in a wide variety of flavors. Isopure contains soy lecithin while Isoflex contains no soy products at all. Both are sweetened by sucralose, an artificial sweetener. Isoflex includes l-arginine, an amino acid that promotes blood flow, while Isopure doesn’t. Isopure is slightly cheaper than Isoflex, but comes with more customer reviews to look at.

Isopure vs Dymatize

These whey protein supplements are very similar, offering multiple sizes and multiple flavors for customers to choose from. Both offer 25g of protein per serving, and both include glutamine. Isopure contains only whey protein isolate as its protein source, while Dymatize contains whey protein concentrate (which has more fats). Isopure and Dymatize seem to be about neck-and-neck, as far as price goes, but Isopure has thousands and thousands of customer reviews behind it – while Dymatize only has a few hundred.
